About Us
Sri Ramani Guruji was born in 1937 in South India into a Brahmin family, where he grew up together with his siblings and trained as an English teacher. Through the example of his parents, he became familiar at an early age with the Indian virtues, charity to other people, especially feeding the poor. He later moved to Chennai (Madras) and now lives with his family in Tambaram, a suburb of the southern Indian metropolis.
In 1962, life took a new turn for Sri Ramani Guruji. He was on his way back to his family from Bhutan, where he worked as an English teacher, when he was approached by name by an old man unknown to him and asked to come along. In the hours that followed, he had a deeply mystical experience that ended with a request to inform his family and come back. This marked the beginning of a new life for Sri Ramani Guruji, because he had found his Guru – his spiritual teacher – with whom he remained together for the next few months. During this period of intense teachings, Sri Ramani Guruji was given all the abilities of his Guru.
The use of these skills is for him the obligation to be there for everyone – regardless of person, religion, origin and reputation. As a farewell, his guru gave him a considerable number of ancient inscribed palm leaves, from which he was to read in the future for the benefit of the people, but this recitation is not limited to the concrete presence of a palm leaf. Sri Ramani Guruji holds daily public palm leaf readings in his ashram and receives people seeking his advice every day. In recent decades, many thousands of people, ordinary people as well as public figures from home and abroad, have consulted him for help and blessings.
In the environment of Sri Ramani Guruji, a charity organization has been formed, which carries out various social tasks and assistance. Again and again, Sri Ramani Guruji points out that his Guru instructed him to maintain a family relationship with the people who visit him. Through this interaction, he makes it easy for us to find contact with him. But we should not forget who we have in front of us. His message to people can be summed up in one sentence: “Think good, speak good, do good”. The comprehensive charity practiced in daily life is a central concern for him, which he conveys to us in his speeches in simple, accurate and lifelike words.
